III. Experimental Paradigm: Eye Movements and Subset Selection

Experiment 1: Eye movement version of the Burkell & Pylyshyn (1996) subset experiment

In order to establish whether visual indices survive a saccade, we have just completed an eye movement version of the Burkell & Pylyshyn subset paradigm. Briefly, we broke the task up across an eye movement by showing subjects the late-onset cues in one fixation, requiring them to make a saccade, and then having them find the target in another fixation.

Variables 

The experiment manipulated 3 variables (12 conditions):

1. Number of late-onset cues (0, 3, 4)
2. Type of search (feature, conjunction)
3. Target state (target-present, target-absent)

Design

Within subject design, with 18 trials per condition per subject (216 trials total per subject)
