Alan Leslie (2012/13) President-Elect of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology

RuCCS Co-Director, Alan Leslie, is the new (2012/13) President-Elect of the Society for Philosophy and Psychology. In other news, Alan will give the cognitive keynote address at the 84th Annual Meeting of the Eastern Psychological Association, March 1-4, 2013, New York, NY., where he will talk about, "Theory of Mind: The developing story of belief-desire reasoning".

Movement patterns may distinguish autism subgroups

Dr. Elizabeth Torres' work on autism was featured on the SFARI (Simon Foundation Autism Research Institute) website in an article titled "Movement patterns may distinguish autism subgroups" by Sarah DeWeerdt 10/19/2012.

Analysis of the movement patterns of people with autism suggests a new approach to classifying the disorder, as well as opportunities for individualized treatment, according to research presented at the Society for Neuroscience annual meeting in New Orleans.

Science for Preschoolers? Yes and No

Dr Rochel Gelman was a guest presenter on the National Center on Quality Teaching and Learning Broadcast on 8/27/12.  She spoke about Early Childhood Science.  The idea re 'no', do not do a push-down curriculum.  Kids know enough to build relevant organized knowledge and start to use key science tools, including recording and dating their work.

Thomas Papathomas' Hollow Body and Mask Illusion 4th at the 2012 BIOTY Contest

An illusion designed and developed at RuCCS' own Laboratory for Vision Research was a top-ten finalist in the 2012 Best Illusion of the Year (BIOTY) contest, among more than 60 entries from around the world. It was voted #4 at the annual BIOTY show.
