Dr. Sheila Borges Rajguru provides leadership and strategic development to Rutgers University Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS), which prides itself in fostering innovative, interdisciplinary research collaborations and training the next generation of scholars through undergraduate and graduate education. She has a multi-disciplinary training in humanities, social sciences, and STEM, which initiated at Rutgers with a double bachelor’s degree in Italian and biology. She later obtained a master’s in microbiology (NYU) and a PhD from Teachers College, Columbia University in science education, where she received institution-wide accolades for her work in re(building) trusting relationships between STEM educators and students. Due to her deep love for education, she’s researched best teaching and learning practices for precollege and higher education, has prepared the next generation of STEM teachers, and has served as PI/Program Director for federal, foundation, and corporate grants.
Borges Rajguru has successfully led and increased the sponsored program enterprise through building internal and external relationships and fostering research collaborations; developed a standard operating procedure for research administration; created faculty, students, and staff grant workshops; designed and carried out diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives; mentored early stage investigators, and created revenue stream through academic programming. In addition, she is a federal panel proposal and ad hoc reviewer. She has presented locally and globally on the best teaching and learning practices in K-12 STEM and higher education.
