This talk will present an overview of a theory of discourse semantics.  I will argue for a notion of linguistic content in which discourse structure and rhetorical function play a prominent role and are integrated into a dynamic conception of truth conditional semantics.  Such a project necessitates a re-examination of how compositional semantics and lexical meaning interact with other sources of information about content, in particular information about content, in particular information pertinent to establishing rhetorical function and prosody.
