In a recent pair of papers ("Alief and Belief" and "Alief in Action (and Reaction)"), I have introduced and defended the philosophical utility of a notion that I call *alief*. (Roughly speaking, an alief a mental state that is the outcome of a System I process.) The notion has gained some currency in philosophy. But is it useful more broadly in Cognitive Science as a whole? In this talk, I will explore some ways that it might be, and ask you whether you find any of them convincing.
