What Women Want (and Give and Get). Charles Darwin in The Descent of Man (1871) said "Woman seems to differ from man in mental disposition, chiefly in her greater tenderness and less selfishness . . . Man . . . . delights in competition, and this leads to ambition which passes too easily into selfishness." Through a series of experiments, I examine his claim. The first series of experiments examines gender differences in altruistic behavior. The second series elicits behavior in a common competitive setting - negotiations - and tests whether women are less demanding at negotiating what they want.
