Tversky and Kahneman’s influential research program exposed the failures of classic probability in describing human judgments leaving many to believe that there is not an axiomatic foundation for understanding human judgments and decisions. In this talk, I will demonstrate that quantum probability theory provides a viable new direction toward the possibility of developing a unified and principled theoretical framework for human decision-making. Quantum probability theory provides a fundamentally different approach to cognition by relaxing some of the axioms of classic probability theory. Applications of quantum theory to inference and causal reasoning will be discussed. The quantum model is also compared and contrasted with other competing explanations.
