RuCCS Marquee Course Series: Cognition in Sensory Cortex

Abstract: Dr. Quilty-Dunn works primarily in philosophy of mind and cognitive science, but has broad research interests in the philosophy of language, aesthetics, and early modern philosophy. Much of his research concerns distinctions between kinds of mental representations (such as iconic and discursive formats), mental processes (such as inference and association), and mental systems (such as perception and cognition). In his presentation, he will discuss the notion of representational format, how we can go about searching for different formats in the mind, and explore the relationship between psychological-level theorizing about representational format and neuroscience.
