Recent study conducted by researchers from the Perception, Neuroscience and Behavior Laboratory in Brazil with Dr. Steve Silverstein as consultant, have discovered that smoking more than 20 cigarettes a day can damage your vision.

Jerry Fodor launched a golden age at philosophy department
Three world-renowned scholars from Harvard and Tufts universities came together earlier this month to honor the Rutgers University philosopher who inspired, challenged, and confounded them: Jerry Fodor.
Fodor, who died in 2017, was a pioneering scholar in the field of cognitive science. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and later at Rutgers—where he ushered in a golden age in the university’s philosophy department—Fodor helped develop the theories that view the human mind as an information processing system with modules for functions such as language, music, or math.

Dr. Konstantinos Michmizos wins the BHI Grant Award for the proposal entitled "Computational Astrocyence."
This Award is in collaboration with leaders in experimental neuroscience: Cheryl Dreyfus, Zhiping Pang (Rutgers Medical School), and Bonnie Firestein (SAS Cell Biology and Neuroscience.)
The Award will allow Konstantinos to further expand his Lab's research on Neural - Astrocytic Networks by combining his computational modeling with experimental studies, giving an unparalleled opportunity for a push-pull dynamic between the two aspects.
The anticipated new knowledge on astrocyte-neuron interaction will advance, if not transform, both computational and brain studies, including studies on brain treatments.
The $40,000/year Grant aligns with ComBra Lab's ongoing efforts to shake the "neurocomputing" dogma, where "brain = neurons", and introduce algorithms employing an abundant yet long-neglected brain cell, astrocytes, with unique computational capabilities.

While autism affects 1 in 59 children in the United States, the spectrum disorder affects 1 in 34 children in New Jersey. Now a new program’s been created to connect people with autism spectrum disorder to the research, resources and services they need. The New Jersey Autism Center of Excellence is state-funded and led by a team from Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Childrens Specialized Hospital. Among them, director Elizabeth Torres who sat down with NJTV Correspondent Briana Vannozzi.
New State Autism Center Opens at Rutgers

The New Jersey Autism Center of Excellence, which is funded by the Governor’s Council for Medical Research and Treatment of Autism, the New Jersey Department of Health, will be led by Elizabeth Torres, an associate professor in psychology at Rutgers-New Brunswick; James Millonig, an associate professor in neuroscience and cell biology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School; and Jill Harris, director of Research Development and Coordinator of Autism Services at Children’s Specialized Hospital.
