NJTV Interviews Elizabeth Torres, Director of The New Jersey Autism Center of Excellence

While autism affects 1 in 59 children in the United States, the spectrum disorder affects 1 in 34 children in New Jersey. Now a new program’s been created to connect people with autism spectrum disorder to the research, resources and services they need. The New Jersey Autism Center of Excellence is state-funded and led by a team from Rutgers University, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Childrens Specialized Hospital. Among them, director Elizabeth Torres who sat down with NJTV Correspondent Briana Vannozzi.

New State Autism Center Opens at Rutgers

The New Jersey Autism Center of Excellence, which is funded by the Governor’s Council for Medical Research and Treatment of Autism, the New Jersey Department of Health, will be led by Elizabeth Torres, an associate professor in psychology at Rutgers-New Brunswick; James Millonig, an associate professor in neuroscience and cell biology at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School; and Jill Harris, director of Research Development and Coordinator of Autism Services at Children’s Specialized Hospital.

In Memoriam: Jerry Fodor (1935-2017)

jerry fodor portraitIt is with great sadness that we report the passing of Jerry Fodor.  The world’s leading philosopher of mind, Jerry was at the forefront of the cognitive revolution, and a founder of the Rutgers Cognitive Science Center (RuCCS).  RuCCS had an event in Spring 18 in honor of his memory.

Dr. Michael Lewis Receives a Lifetime Distinguished Contribution Award

michael lewis new2The International Congress of Infant Studies (ICIS), at their 21st Biennial Congress on June 30, 2018 in Philadelphia, PA, awarded Dr. Michael Lewis a Lifetime Distinguished Contribution Award for the Study of Infant Development.

 

 

 

RuCCS Post-Doc Dr. Attila Farkas was awarded the Mistletoe Research Fellowship

processed attila farkas2The Mistletoe Research Fellowship provides research grants and opportunities to collaborate with startups. This fellowship provides 10k to be used towards any research activity. He also becomes a part of the Mistletoe Startup collaboration which provides professional training through workshops and networking, as well as participation in a year-long applied industry project. Please do join us in congratulating him, and his mentor Dr. Thomas Papathomas!
