Please join us in congratulating Michael Lewis for being awarded the Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research for the academic year 2018-2019. This has also been an eventful year for Michael, who received a Lifetime Distinguished Contribution Award from the International Congress of Infant Studies earlier this year.

We are excited to congratulate Elizabeth Torres for being awarded the Board of Trustees Award for Excellence in Research for the academic year 2018-2019. This is the highest honor for outstanding research contributions that the university awards to tenured faculty. Dr. Torres has had an incredible year, from launching her new autism center to securing her patent for work related to methods in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological disorders.

LAUNCH AND CALL FOR PAPERS: We are excited to announce the launch of the "Mental Note" journal, the only one of its kind – an Academic Journal dedicated to Cognitive Science, aimed at publishing undergraduate research. We are looking for college-level research papers and theoretical works and commentaries pertaining to the Cognitive Sciences.

While autism affects 1 in 59 children in the United States, the spectrum disorder affects 1 in 34 children in New Jersey. It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Jerry Fodor.  The world’s leading philosopher of mind, Jerry was at the forefront of the cognitive revolution, and a founder of the Rutgers Cognitive Science Center (RuCCS).  RuCCS had an event in Spring 18 in honor of his memory. 

The International Congress of Infant Studies (ICIS), at their 21st Biennial Congress on June 30, 2018 in Philadelphia, PA, awarded Dr. Michael Lewis a Lifetime Distinguished Contribution Award for the Study of Infant Development.

The Mistletoe Research Fellowship provides research grants and opportunities to collaborate with startups. This fellowship provides 10k to be used towards any research activity. He also becomes a part of the Mistletoe Startup collaboration which provides professional training through workshops and networking, as well as participation in a year-long applied industry project. Put your cellphone down! Research coming from the lab of Arnold Glass (Psychology) is getting cited in the media. In his study, students in classes with cellphones and laptops allowed scored significantly lower on exams. You can read more about this work in a recent ABC News report.

Incoming graduate student in Psychology, Richa Rai, was awarded an Excellence Fellowship by the Dean’s office. This is a competitive fellowship, offered to a limited number of students who demonstrate outstanding qualifications. She will be working with Elizabeth Torres (Psychology).

RuCCS was selected as the only unit in SAS to be entered into the Entrepreneurial Award Program, which offers funds and support to initiate a collaborative exchange with Chinese students.
