Virtual humans are autonomous virtual characters that are designed to act like humans and interact with them in shared virtual environments, much as humans interact face-to-face with other humans. Increasingly, virtual humans are being used for a range of applications from teaching social skills to doctors, to entertainment as well as a framework for evaluating psychological theories. Often underlying the design of virtual humans are a range of computational models derived from psychological theories. In this talk, I will briefly introduce virtual humans. I will then discuss the formulation of computational process models from theory, illustrating by example how in my view it can impact theory formulation, reformulation and evaluation.
